Guided Walks
The Central Plateau of New Zealand has a diversity of walking and tramping tracks ranging from mountain bush to bare volcanic landscapes and everything in-between.The scenery is truly breathtaking within the Tongariro National and the Kaimanawa Forest parks with the Tongariro National Park being dominated by the active volcanoes of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. We offer walks that range from half an hour of easy walking to the more adventurous walks of about 8 hours. Most though are around the 2 to 3 hours and are easily made with average fitness. It is our aim to make your walk as pleasurable as we can and we go at your pace. In most cases we do not need to complete the walk and can stop as many times as you wish to view the scenery, have a cup of tea or coffee or simply just rest. Each walk requires a different level of fitness but there are plenty of shorter walks just as interesting as the longer more arduous walks quite suitable for the less fit. We will transport you to and from the start of each walk (see next paragraph for details). We provide everyone with a small pack complete with food for the day and a bottle of water. These packs are very light and can be used for your warm weather clothes and any extras you may wish to carry. Pick up and return to your accommodation from Turangi, Tokaanu, Pukawa, Omori and the Kuratau is included in the price. Pickup from Whakapapa is also included in the price for any walks around the National Park but a surcharge will be applied for walks in the Kaimanawa Forest park for clients picked up from Whakapapa. All other areas will have a travel surcharge. You should always have with you warm wind and waterproof clothing, a hat, gloves, sunglasses, suncream and sturdy footwear. For our longer walks it would be advisable to use tramping boots. Even on cloudy days you will need suncream and a hat and be prepared with the warmer water proof clothing. The weather can be very changeable. Donald and Pamela put safety first. Donald has his Bush Leaders Award, the company has a rigorously checked and approved Safety Management Plan and both Donald and Pamela have their Work Place First Aid Certificates. We always carry a full First Aid kit, PLB (Personal Location Beacon), GPS, VHF Radio and relevant maps and compasses. Plateau Walks & Water Adventures Ltd's Safety Plan is always available for viewing and we encourage our clients to look through it. All walks are clearly marked and and well used. We believe in leaving the areas as we find them so we keep strictly to all tracks and only deviate to areas of interest when marked. All rubbish has to be carried out with us!!!! By choosing to walk with us you can have the confidence that you may not have on your own to experience these lovely walks. Maybe you are visiting the area for a short time and and don't have the time to plan and organize walks. Leave that to us and just simply enjoy yourself. We will arrange special deals if you would like to experience more than one walk while you are staying the area or maybe combine a walk or walks with a Water Adventure on Lake Taupo. Conditions:Plateau Walks & Water Adventures Ltd reserves the right to alter the itinerary based on weather conditions and other such events. Plateau Walks & Water Adventures Ltd has an audited Safety Plan and we have the required First Aid Certificates and whilst every effort is taken to ensure your comfort and safety, walkers do so at their own risk.
